Our story

Founded in Scotland, dussl was born from a simple idea: to create high-quality skincare products that help to combat the leading cause of ageing, wrinkles, and skin damage – unprotected sun exposure.

Although the irony is not lost – a Scottish skincare brand focusing on sun protection (cue the “is it ever actually sunny in Scotland?” jokes) – it’s exactly the point. UV rays are ever-present. Everywhere. Yes, even in Scotland!

For too long, sun protection has become synonymous with holidays, beaches and summer days. But in reality, UV exposure is a daily concern.

There are three categories of UV rays:

UVC: The most harmful – but thankfully blocked by the Earth’s ozone layer.

UVB: Associated with full sun – these rays reach the outer layer of your skin and cause sunburn.

UVA: Always present (even on cloudy days) – these rays reach deep into the inner layer of your skin and lead to long-term harm.

Daily exposure to UVA and regular exposure to UVB compounds over time – leading to skin damage, and the risk of developing skin cancers. This is why Dermatologists recommend wearing SPF every single day.

So why don’t we all wear SPF every day?

That’s the exact question dussl’s founder – Fraser – asked himself. For many of us, it’s linked to the collective childhood trauma of yellow t-shirt stains, pasty faces, and cream that never rubs in.

Fraser set out to create a better solution after discovering a lack of great products for everyday use. With strict criteria – dermatologically tested, gender-neutral, vegan, cruelty-free, invisible, non-greasy, and free from nasties – Fraser decided to leave his career in the tech world and start dussl.
