Frequently asked questions
Why does UV protection matter?
Because although the sun makes us feel great, unprotected exposure causes damage to our skin. Alongside premature ageing and wrinkles, it can lead to the development of skin cancer.
There are three categories of UV rays:
UVC: The most harmful – but thankfully blocked by the Earth’s ozone layer.
UVB: Associated with full sun – these rays reach the outer layer of your skin and cause sunburn.
UVA: Always present (even on cloudy days) – these rays reach deep into the inner layer of your skin and lead to long-term harm.
Daily exposure to UVA and regular exposure to UVB compounds over time. This is why Dermatologists recommend wearing SPF every single day.
What is a natural mineral sunscreen?
A natural mineral sunscreen uses naturally occurring minerals, like Zinc Oxide, to protect your skin from UV rays. Unlike chemical sunscreens, which absorb and break down UV rays, mineral sunscreens form a physical barrier on the skin to block UV rays.
What is Zinc Oxide?
Zinc Oxide is a naturally occurring mineral that provides broad spectrum UV protection by physically blocking and reflecting both UVA and UVB rays. It also has soothing and protective qualities that nourish your skin.
Does this natural mineral sunscreen leave a white cast?
No! This sunscreen rubs in quickly and absorbs fully, without being sticky or leaving a white cast.
Is this mineral sunscreen suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes. The formula has been designed for all skin types, and dermatologically tested for safety and suitability.
But with any change to your skincare routine, it’s recommended to take it slowly. Try one new product at a time (don’t go from 0 to 100 all at once), patch-test before applying fully, and avoid applying to broken or damaged skin.
When should I use this natural mineral sunscreen?
You should apply a sunscreen product every single morning as part of your AM skincare routine. For simplicity, we recommend combining your daily moisturiser with an SPF (see the dussl Daily Protection Moisturiser SPF 50 here), but if you would rather wear a separate moisturiser and SPF, then use this natural mineral sunscreen after you have applied your moisturiser. For full body application, apply generously to all exposed skin, at least 15 minutes before full sun exposure.
Is this natural mineral sunscreen suitable for wearing while playing sports?
Yes! Although the formula isn’t water-resistant, it has sweat-resistance properties – meaning that the UV protection will stay even while sweating. If you find that you’re wiping your face frequently, sweating a lot, or if your sporting activity involves water – make sure to reapply regularly for full protection.
Is this natural mineral sunscreen suitable for wearing if I have colour-treated hair and/or wear hair extensions?
Yes! This sunscreen is safe to wear if you have colour-treated hair and/ or hair extensions. The sunscreen is a mineral formula and contains gentle, natural ingredients – with no harsh chemicals that could potentially cause discolouration. We do recommend though that you patch test before use if you have colour-treated hair and/or extensions, and that you use sparingly if you have oil-sensitive extensions.
Is this natural mineral sunscreen suitable for use during pregnancy/ for the whole family?
Yes! This sunscreen is free from chemicals, and all ingredients are safe to use during pregnancy and for the whole family. If you have any specific concerns or questions, we recommend consulting your GP before use.
Should I choose SPF 30 or SPF 50?
The Sun Protection Factor (SPF) rating indicates how long you can stay in the sun without getting sunburned vs. not using any protection. A rating of SPF 50 provides longer protection than SPF 30, allowing for extended sun exposure.
Is this mineral sunscreen suitable for everyday use?
Yes, this sunscreen has been designed for everyday use. It can be used on your face and neck each morning after applying your moisturiser (if you prefer to keep your moisturiser and SPF application separate), and on your full body every day as required.
Who is this natural mineral sunscreen for?
For everyone. All dussl products are gender-neutral and have been formulated for all skin types.
Is this natural mineral sunscreen a good formula?
Yes! This formula is dermatologically tested and free from nasties. The ingredients are 100% naturally derived and the product has been designed for all skin types.
Does this natural mineral sunscreen have a fragrance?
No, the formula is fragrance-free so that it's kind and suitable for all skin types. Although the sunscreen has no added fragrance, the lotion has a subtle, natural cocoa scent from the Cacao Butter ingredient – which after application, largely fades.
How do I use this natural mineral sunscreen?
Apply generously to all exposed skin, at least 15 minutes before full sun exposure. Rub evenly in a circular motion until fully absorbed. If you’re in full sun, we recommend reapplying every 1-2 hours, and after swimming or towelling.
If you’re using this product as the sunscreen layer on your face and neck – apply after your moisturiser, and before any make-up.
Is it better to wear a moisturiser with SPF, or a separate moisturiser and sunscreen?
In our opinion, it's better to wear a combined moisturiser with SPF on your face and neck every single day. Let your skin breathe and simplify your routine with dussl – wear one great product that combines the hydration you need from a daily moisturiser, along with the No.1 recommendation from dermatologists for healthy skin: SPF. And better yet – SPF 50! Check out the dussl Daily Protection Moisturiser SPF 50 here.
We recommend using the dussl Natural Mineral Sunscreen Lotion on your full body as required – for activities like outdoor sports, walks, or on holiday.
At the end of the day though, it's completely down to your preference. If you do decide to keep your moisturiser and SPF separate, then the dussl Natural Mineral Sunscreen Lotion is a really great choice for your face and neck.
